A Call to Activism: Witnessing Globally, Responding Locally

Clyde Wilson Pickett, PhD, vice chancellor for equity, diversity, & inclusion, University of Pittsburgh; Leigh Patel, PhD, professor in the School of Education, University of Pittsburgh; Jasiri X, rapper, activist and founder of anti-violence group 1Hood; Darren Whitfield, assistant professor of social work and psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh; and Mario Browne, director of the Office of Health Sciences Diversity, University of Pittsburgh (moderator).

The call and response to activism around the globe has been catalyzed by the witnessing through multi-media of the disproportionate burden of preventable death, disease, and disenfranchisement of Black and all marginalized people in the US. This session seeks to amplify, interrogate, and offer mitigation strategies to redress systemic injustice and establish equity and justice, for all.
